History and structure – Rocca of Lonato
Located on the top of one of the hills south of Garda Lake, the Rocca Visconteo Veneta, is the largest fortification in Lombardy. Declared a national monument in 1912, it was purchased by Senator Ugo Da Como and today belongs to the monumental complex headed by the homonymous Foundation, a non-profit cultural institution.
From the perimeter of its crenellated walls you can admire the panorama of the entire Garda Lake and the historic center of the town that extends to lap the first lands of the Po Valley. The castle has a typically fifteenth-century appearance, built entirely with river pebbles and organized into two large units: the Rocchetta and the Main District.
The structure is reserved exclusively; the access to the Rocca is facilitated by a convenient parking immediately adjacent to the entrance of the drawbridge.
